Squirrels are more than just bushy tailed nut gatherers - they are a cute symbol of resourcefulness and nature. That's why this year, eco-enthusiasts Green City Events have launched their new series of "Green Squirrel" workshops; teaching traditional and sustainable skills in the heart of the city.

"The Green Squirrel is a resourceful little creature and is encouraging people in Cardiff to skill up and learn ways to live greener lifestyles in the City," explains Green City founder and Director Rebecca Clark.

"Instead of squirrelling away acorns he's on the hunt for new skills and meaningful connections that can help Cardiffians live more sustainably," adds Green City Director Hannah Garcia.

These workshops really do offer something for everyone. If you're crafty you'll love the Upcycling, Yarn Spinning and Tanning workshops. Thrifty, make-do-and-mend types will find the Household Hacks, Sustainable Fashion and Bike First Aid workshops useful. And if you're interested in producing your own food you can learn Beekeeping, Chicken Keeping as well as handy veg growing skills in the City Crops workshop.

"I love cooking (and eating) so my favourite workshops are those involving food and drink - we've got Mead Making, an Urban Food Forage, Wild Crafty Brewing and a City Harvest where you can come and learn how to pickle and preserve the food from your garden," says Hannah.

Good news for participants, this year the workshops are even more affordable at just ?10 each. That's less than a takeaway (and it feels much better afterwards).

"We're thrilled to have received support from The Big Lottery fund this year," says Rebecca, "this means we can lower the cost to our participants whilst still valuing the skills and time of our tutors and supporting a local, independent Cardiff venue, the Little Man Coffee. We are hoping this will make our workshops even more accessible and appealing to a wide audience."

There is more to come so keep your eyes peeled for the Green Squirrel hiding in Little Man Coffee and around Cardiff in the run-up to the workshops for the chance to win some treats!
