Cuts Affect You(th)
Cardiff Youth Council is concerned about the impact of the proposed £50 million cuts from council services on children and young people.
A sub group has been formed and a campaign brand has been developed. Campaign member Tom Bevan said “we are working hard to speak with as many decision makers as we can to get our point across. We have presented evidence to the council’s scrutiny committee and met with Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty”.
CYC have also started a letter campaign to politicians and leading officers requesting meaningful dialogue with young people, clarification of information and that the cuts to services should be fair and equitable.
As part of the campaign CYC are running a survey at Cardiff and Vale College and St David’s College.
Members of the campaign group also interviewed 50 young people from across the city about the benefits of using council services such as play centres, libraries, youth centres and leisure services. This was then made into a short film (above right) to highlight young people’s feelings on this important matter.
