Coronation Cheat?

After the National Television Awards last week on ITV1, BBC bosses accused ITV of “fixing” the awards so that Coronation Street won the top gong again at this year’s ceremony.

Apparently, ITV craftily moved Emmerdale from its usual Wednesday 7pm slot and replaced it with Corrie so viewers saw it just moments before the awards show began.

Fans began voting for their favourites after the nominees for the NTAs were announced at the start of the month. But voting for the Best Serial Drama was kept open during the entire awards show.

The BBC are convinced that this “tactic” meant the show pulled in extra votes, which saw ITV win the big soap prize.

One insider said, “It seems ITV will stop at nothing to win NTAs. The stars tweet reminding people to vote – then they put a big Corrie episode on moments before the show starts. It is such an obvious tactic and not the first time they have played unfairly when it comes to the NTAs.”

But last night an ITV source said: “These claims of a fix are just sour grapes. The best soap won and our ratings are better than EastEnders too, averaging 9.2 million.”

It is the second time in the last three years ITV has been accused of a stunt to help Corrie to victory.

So what do you think, Coronation Street or Coronation Cheat?

From that Twitter:

@FeedtheSprout EASTENDERS FTW! I think it was rather sneaky of them to do that, though. I don't think it was a cheat, though.

Got something to say?
