*CLICstar Closes Friday!*
NB: Entries will be accepted up until 5pm this Friday 19 October!
Anyone who's ever been on one of our legendary CLIC Weekenders will be familiar with CLIC's Got Talent: a night when we encourage you to show off your skills. It's a night of sugar-fuelled dancing, singing and song writing, interspersed with poetry readings, stand-up comedy, beatboxing, rapping, and pretty much anything and everything else you can think of.
Well we thought it was about time we took this thing onto a national scale. So without further ado...
Introducing
* * CLICstar! * *
CLICstar is an online talent show and you're invited to enter.
No matter what your talent, we want to broadcast it online and let people from all across Wales vote for you.
Whether you perform solo or as part of a group, we want to hear from you. We will consider anything – don't feel only master singers and dancers can apply for CLICstar. Maybe you're a poet or a writer, maybe improv comedy is your thing, maybe you can communicate with cats or sculpt the Eiffel Tower out of bananas... whatever it is that you can do, we want to know!
The competition will be run entirely online, and the two acts with the most votes will perform in front of 200 people at the CLICawards in October.
The winning act will also receive a £250 voucher to spend at Blue Banana. The runner-up will win a Solemate portable speaker worth £150.
Who is this for?
Individuals and small groups. Anyone with a hobby, a passion, a party trick or a skill.
Can my band enter?
Afraid not. If you're in a band then where you want to be is the Battle of the Bands page. CLIC BOTB, in association with Merthyr Rock, is an annual search for the best unsigned bands across Wales.
Solo acts, MCs and pop acts are allowed to enter CLICstar, however any acts with more of a rock/metal edge to them may be transferred to BOTB if judges feel you'd be better off performing onstage at Merthyr Rock than at CLICstar.
How do I enter?
If you already have a webpage showcasing your act (such as a YouTube video or a Myspace/Facebook/Soundcloud page) then simply email us the link to clicstar@cliconline.co.uk along with a photo and a few lines about yourself and your act.
If your talent has yet to be broadcast to the world, worry not! Simply upload a video of your act to YouTube or CLICplay. (If you would prefer to just upload audio, Soundcloud is a good site to use.) Once your video/audio is live, email the URL to clicstar@cliconline.co.uk along with a photo and a few lines about yourself and your act. We will then add your video/audio to the CLICstar page so that everyone in Wales can enjoy your act, and anyone signed up to CLIConline will be able to vote for you.
You must be aged 11-25 and live in Wales to enter.
What do I need in order to enter?
You need a video (or an audio recording) of you doing your thing. It doesn't need to be exceptional quality – webcam or cameraphone quality is fine – but it does need to show off your talent. The video will be put online for everyone to watch and to vote on, so keep that in mind when recording. The length of the video will depend on what it is you're submitting, but keep in mind your audience: too short and it might not show off all you can do; too long and they might not watch all the way until the end.
If you don't have access to a video camera, your local CLIC editorial group may be able to help. You may wish to edit your video before submitting. There are number of free tools to do this, like Windows Movie Maker (PC), iMovie (Apple Mac) and Kdenlive (Linux).
What kind of things are you looking for?
Anything and everything! Here are a few possibilities of acts you could submit, but the list is endless:-
- Stand-up comedy
- Improv
- Impressions
- Magic tricks
- Martial arts/stunts (please be careful!)
- On-the-spot artwork (caricatures, sculpting, or maybe something a bit more unconventional like toast art)
- Performing with pets
- Poetry or spoken word
- Rap
- DJing
- Singing/songwriting
- Dance moves
- and the list goes on

Slight amendment - it'll be two CLICstar finalists at the awards, plus our Battle of the Bands winners, Tone Damage!

While we haven't set an official deadline for submissions, the CLIC Awards are on October 30th so it will need to be at least a couple of weeks before then. The sooner the better.
Have had some questions about recording quality: rough recordings are fine. Please don't feel you need to hire a professional camera crew or book yourself into a studio or anything!
