Dave Jones sacked as Cardiff City boss

Cardiff City yesterday announced that after six seasons at the club, they have decided to terminate Manager Dave Jones' contract with immediate effect, after yet another failure to win promotion into the Premier League. Jones, who joined the club back in May 2005, has seen the club develop from a stable middle-of-the-table championship team to a regular contender in the promotion play-off finals, while also taking the team to a FA Cup Final.

This news was delivered by Chairman and Board CEO, Gethin Jenkins, on the same day that Swansea City FC achieved a 4-2 win over Reading at Wembley Stadium and promotion to the Premier League. Both Swansea and Reading made it to the final despite having considerably smaller budgets adding to the humiliation of the Bluebirds' flop.

The chairman of the club said: "Dave Jones leaves his post in the knowledge that he has left the club in a far better position than when he arrived."

Striker, Craig Bellamy, is now among the contenders to take over as player-boss, along with Roberto De Matteo and Alan Curbishley.
