Cardiff Bloggers Meetup Logo Competition

The Cardiff Bloggers Meetup is a regular gathering of bloggers, vloggers, tweeters and other webheads from across South Wales.

They are held roughly every two months and allow online acquaintances to meet face-to-face and to share tips and ideas. There are guest speakers from all corners of the internet: political activists, music bloggers, web designers, PR & marketing experts, prolific tweeters and more. The events are 18+ so unfortunately not applicable to everyone who uses theSprout, but I hope this will still be of interest to those who are over (or approaching) 18.

*Ahem*

Now, as the Cardiff Bloggers Meetups (#cdfblogs) have been running for over a year, we feel it's about time we got ourselves a snazzy logo to put on the posters and the Twitter account. So we've decided to hold a competition to find a Cardiff-based graphic designer able to design us a nifty logo.

Reckon you're good enough? Read on...

Are you a budding graphic designer?  Do you have a creative flare you are longing to show off?  How would you like to help create a stronger identity for Cardiff Blogs?

We want to develop a recognisable logo that will create a more consistent visual link between all of the various channels we use to communicate; the blog, Twitter, Facebook, and of course any materials we use to promote the Cardiff Blogs meetups.

What we want:

A new logo which should include:

  • The name – Cardiff Blogs (Cdfblogs)
  • The ability to be used as a bilingual logo
  • Recommendations on wider brand identity – colours, typeface etc

The logo needs to be:

  • Indicative of an imaginative, creative and sociable group of people
  • Memorable and distinctive
  • Flexible: to be used as a Twitter avatar, in the Cardiff Blogs blog header, on tickets and displayed at events, as an online badge of membership on members’ blogs
  • (Optional) Reflective of our location at the heart of Cardiff

Our Audience:

The Cardiff Blogs meet ups attract people of all ages and backgrounds – it’s a very diverse, welcoming group.  They are connected by a shared interest in blogging and social media.  Many run their own blogs or are active on twitter and Facebook.  Some may be looking to learn more to help with studying, work, charity support or online projects they run.  Others come to network with people who share similar interests.  We always want people to be interested in attending the events and to know that they will feel welcome.  Our ultimate aim is always to attract more people to come to events and to participate in the social networks that are run by the group.

The Prize:

The winning entry will be offered a fantastic opportunity by graphic design company Cheeky Monkey Creative - a one week placement with the Cardiff company who specialise in producing graphic design that “creates an impact, really makes a difference and provides a tangible benefit for [all our] clients.”

They work across many platforms; Print Design, Branding, Advertising, Web Design, Exhibitions, Creative Strategy and work with all sizes and shapes of client, from small start-up businesses to national organisations.  You can take a look at their portfolio section to see examples of their work.

There will be many more prizes for the runners-up which will be announced on the website shortly.

The Deadline:

17:00 Friday 13 January 2012

The Rules

1. Entries will be judged by a panel chosen by the Cardiff Blogs organising committee (judges TBC and announced shortly).  Their decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

5. Entrants must be over 18 and must include name, date of birth, phone number and email address.  Entrants can submit more than entry.

6. Entries after the deadline will not be judged.

8. All work submitted must be original.

Blogging isn't writing. It's graffiti with punctuation. =D
