Alone: Part Three

I have decided to combine parts three and four into one long finale thing. Thanks if you have also read parts one and two!

The pale blue sky is dotted with puffy white clouds when I wake up.

I twist my grass bracelet round and round my wrist in frustration, wondering what to do next. I'm desperately thirsty, but the ground below my tattered dress is dry, dusty, and the grass is brown and dead looking. There is no tree to climb for a better view, and the grass has hidden the path from which I came.

I start walking forwards in what I hope is the right direction.

At around midday, I start feeling weak. My stomach constantly aches and my tongue is dry. I pull a long, slightly less dead-looking piece of grass from the ground and chew it slowly. It tastes dusty and dry, but I feel a bit better. In the distance the sky is overcast and the sky is shorter. Could it be the edge of the field?

The sun sets, but I keep walking, trying to reach the edge of the field. I chew another piece of grass, trying to keep hunger away unsuccessfully. Clouds crowd the sky, hopefully meaning rain that I can somehow drink. I can see the edge of the grass, but not the edge of the field. The hard packed mud carries on as far as the eye can see. I feel like crying again, but I don't have any water to spare. I curl up into a ball. I may as well give up.

I wake up. I can hear something in the distance.
"Anna!" I hear someone, or something, crashing through the grass towards me.
"Anna! Anna!" The voice calls again. Suddenly, I recognise the voice.
"Jacob!" I cry.
The Boy. My brother.

The light shines through my eyelids. The clouds have cleared. No rain.
There's no boy.
I'm still hungry.
Still thirsty.
Still dying.

"Anna!" A voice calls in the distance.

It was really well constructed and nicely utilised simplicity! Congrats on a great series!
