Age Of Empires II HD: African Kingdoms Just Released
An official new expansion for the legendary, award-winning Age of Empires II (AoE II) has just been released.
AoE II HD: African Kingdoms is the second new expansion pack to the widely-celebrated real-time strategy game in just over two years, following the release of AoE II: The Forgotten in August 2013.
African Kingdoms unlocks a whole new continent of gameplay to explore and introduces four new civilisations to smash your enemies with: Berbers, Ethiopians, Malians and... the Portuguese!
Yes, that means new units, new ships and new technologies.
With units able to scale enemy walls, melee folk able to burn down buildings, and Fire Ships available from the Feudal Age onwards, the new AoE II is set to be more carnage than ever.
If that wasn't mouth-watering enough, the clever creators have also made 23 new maps and four new campaigns. Oh, and there's a Sudden Death mode...
Released in 1999, the original AoE II was a best-seller in its day, won multiple awards and is widely and fondly regarded as one of the best games of all time. Period.
The very first AoE II, The Age of Kings scored 92 out of 100 on both GameRankings and Metacritic, and was released on something called Windows 95.
AoE II is an epic-scale, kingdom-stretching, beautifully-crafted real-time strategy classic, the first two games of which are available in probably any good game store (and in any one of your mates' houses), whilst 2013 and 2015's additions are only available via download from Steam.
Timeline of Main AoE II Releases:
- September 1999 - AoE II: The Age of Kings released
- September 2000 - AoE II: The Conquerors Expansion released
- April 2013 - AoE II HD released on Steam
- August 2013 - AoE II HD: The Forgotten (via Steam)
- November 2015 - AoE II HD: African Kingdoms (via Steam)
