American Football
American football is a competitive team sport. The aim of the sport is to get the football towards the opposing team's 'end zone' to score points.
The ball can be moved forwards by carrying the ball, by throwing it, or by handing it from one member of the team to another. Points can be scored in a number of ways - for example, by carrying the ball over the goal line, throwing the ball to another player past the goal line or kicking it through the goal posts. The winning team is the one with the most points at the end of the match.
American football originated in the US and is hugely popular there. Though it is not widely played in the UK, American football is a growing sport in both universities and at a younger age.
There are currently six American football teams in Wales:
There are two Youth Flag Teams:
- The South Wales Rebellion
- The Newport City Saints
This means they play non-contact American football and they cater for ages 12-17.
There are two Welsh university teams:
- The Cardiff Cobras
- The Tarannau Aberystwyth
Each year these two teams play each other for the Welsh Bowl.
There are two Senior Kitted Teams:
- The Chester Romans
- The South Wales Warriors
If you want to play American football or simply watch or support at a game, see the contact details below.
