Coal. Art. Politics. Memory. Wales. Tigers. An offsite production by Volcano, in association with Wales Millennium Centre. Black Stuff is a promenade show about lives and imaginations shaped by coal mining. It leads you on a noisy, grimy journey through a listed building in Cardiff Bay, evoking the rhythms of relentless physical action that dominated the everyday lives of working people. Volcano, one of Wales’s most consistently inventive performance companies, has taken its cue from a surreal miners’ story and a journey in search of a lost industrial landscape. Black Stuff uses real tools, objects, bodies and voices to create a vivid experience for all the senses and an imaginative, unsentimental exploration of life, art, industry and politics. ‘Contemporary Wales has enough poetry and pity to last. We need other ways of describing our memories and our futures.’ Every day at 7:15pm Meet at the Silver Dragon in the Wales Millennium Centre Directed by Paul Davies Movement Director: Catherine Bennett Design: Lizzie French and Cadi Lane Lighting Design: Ben Stimpson Video: Erin Rickard To book tickets give us a call on 02920 636464 or online at www.wmc.org.uk
