Everyone knows the story of the Titanic. Even if you don't, you must have at least heard the name somewhere before.

The Titanic was a luxury ship, and at the time, it was the world's biggest. However on its very first, and only, voyage, there was a tragic accident. The ship sunk in almost two mile deep water, in the Atlantic Ocean.

But this article was not just going to be about the ship's journey.

My great-great-granddad, William Mew, was going to travel on the Titanic as a chef, but some time before it left, he and a few of his colleagues had a bad feeling about going. They listened to their consciences and refused to go.

The people who were running the trip, a company called "White Star", thought they were all stupid for not going.

In an old newspaper I found, which was full of information on the Titanic, they described the cooks first of all as dead, then as missing, then as having refused to go! And above all, they spelled my great-great-granddad's name wrong.

This is a copy of the list of cooks from the newspaper:

"Did not go on the voyage. - The following who had "signed on" did not go on the voyage by the vessel:- A. Haveling, W. Sims, V. Penny, C. Blake, A. Slade, Thos. Slade, D. Slade, W. Burrows, J. Shaw, F. Holden, R. Brewer, E. di Napoli, B. Fish, P. Kilford, W. W. Dawes, P. Elinger, R. Fisher, A. Manley, W. J. Mewe, P. Dawkins, F. T. Bowman, J. Coffey."

Can you find my great-great-granddad's misspelled name there?
