A train robber Ronnie Biggs is waiting for his release after he was put in prison for stealing a mail train in 1963. When he was told that he would be released his son was delighted.
Biggs is at an old age of 79 and has been suffering from strokes and is being fed through a tube. He is unable to walk, read, write or speak and can’t drink either. Biggs is severely ill with pneumonia and Justice Secretary Jack Straw approved his release on Thursday after being told he is unlikely to recover. Biggs had a 30 years sentence but in the space of 15 months he escaped from the Wondsworth prison in South West London when climbing a 30ft wall and escaping in a van, he was on the run for over 30 years, living in Australia and Brazil, before coming back to the U.K to search for medical treatment in 2001.
