Preview: James Blake @ The Globe
Next month, one of the country’s newest and most exciting ‘post-dubstep’ artists (whatever that is) comes to one of Cardiff’s newest and most exciting music venues.
Yes I know, the delicious mix of London’s James Blake and Albany Road’s The Globe makes it difficult not to drool, but close your mouth; it’s rude.
Runner-up in BBC’s Sound of 2011 Blake’s eponymous debut includes the soul-licked cover of Feist’s Limit to your Love and new single The Wilhelm Scream and has been described as ‘exactly what modern pop needs’ by one reviewer. However Blake is perfectly happy out of the mainstream and, rather refreshingly, says of his album 'I didn't make this record for Chris Moyles. I'm in the dubstep scene’, although has since played on Later with Jools Holland and on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show further confirming dubstep’s arrival in popular consciousness.
Blake is currently touring in the US and later in Canada, before rocking up in Britain in June - he comes to Cardiff on Thursday 16th at the end of his UK run. With cracking bass and remarkable vocals, this is a real treat for the people of Roath* and is not to be missed.
You can enjoy James Blake at The Globe, Albany Road, Roath, for £10 with tickets available here, or wait for my review to see what you missed.
*N.B. You do not have to be from Roath to attend this gig although you do to have to be 16. Sorry.

Wow, I've never heard of post-dubstep before. I was waiting for the mind twisting break in the middle, but actually it was just a really subtle use of the dubstep rhythm. Nice one Tommy B!
