New Experience #97: Applying to University
I decided to apply for university for 2014 entry (a year off is needed) and was dead set on doing English at either Exeter or Cambridge.
However, a last minute change of mind meant I had a week and a half before the Oxbridge deadline to write a personal statement from scratch about a subject I had never studied and seldom read about: Human, Social and Political Sciences. But write it I did and got it sent off a matter of hour before the cut off time. I have since had an offer from Leeds and have an interview at Cambridge in a few weeks (and plenty more 'eeeeks') time.
Rating: 2/5. I rushed UCAS so much that I didn't really have time to get stressed about it.... while the extra year means I can always change my mind again. And as the King of Indecision (according to my mate Gareth), this is more than a strong possibility.

New Experience #98: Eating Baklava
Never underestimate the quiet brilliance of Cardiff Market. It had been my plan to get a tarot reading done as this week's new experience, but due to the expense of the Market's in-house fortune teller, me and my mate Siobhan decided to leave it. Instead, we plumped for a piece of a sweet, Greek pastry treat, warmed and served with a napkin* ; a bit of Baklava. Its nutty overtones went perfectly with a milky cuppa and helped take away the bitter disappointment of being priced out of our futures.
Rating: 4/5. Yum.
*It was more than a little greasy.

New Experience#99 : Southern Indian Vegetarian Cuisine
My mate Melissa and I were in Covent Garden to see a play and stumbled upon a Southern Indian veggie restaurant. A fan of any curry-like grub (#49) and of most things vegetarian (#85), it had to be a winning choice. Here's what I picked from a staggeringly large menu...
"Lassi- A traditional and popular creamy yoghurt and milk drink that can be sweet or savoury. "
I plumped for the mango variety and downed it. The best drink I've had as part of this yearlong challenge- beats nettle tea (#15) hands down.
"Rasa Vada- Soft lentil doughnuts soaked in warm tangy rasam."
Lentil doughnuts? A very stodgy starter.
"Mysore Masala Dosa - A famous rice and lentil pancake served with red coconut chutney filled with potato, onions & carrot. "
Nice n large and filling. A whole host of new flavours- milder than I'd have liked but nonetheless satisfying.
Rating: 4/5. We could hardly walk to the theatre after that beast of a feast. Next time we'll ditch the doughnuts.
