New Experience #89: An Olympic Parade
As the Paralympics closing ceremony was finishing what will be remembered as one of Britain's finest summers, I was packing my rucksack ready for a trip to London. Yes, my Olympic experience (see #74 & #75) wasn't over yet as I was given a ticket for the volunteers' section of the Team GB parade, taking place on the Monday after the last day of the games.
Probably one of the better excuses I've had for missing English, the day did involve a bit too much standing around but that meant more opportunity to talk to volunteers from around the country about their experiences. I met a crew from Weymouth who'd been on Ben Ainslie's boat and had sun throughout the sailing competition, a woman who had checked in foreign officials at a swanky London hotel and a guy who'd worked on the Olympic Park itself for seven weeks. By the time all the athletes had come past, the Pet Shop Boys had performed and Boris Johnson buffooned his way around, my cheeks were well and truly knackered from chatting and cheering.
A jolly good day out if I ever had one.
Rating: 4/5 A little too patriotic for my taste but it was good to don the pink tracksuit one final time and applaud the athletes who made this summer so exciting.
New Experience #90: A Celebrity Interview
I have been writing journalistically for a good few years now but face-to-face interviews have never been something I have done enough of. TheSprout was invited to interview the cast of this year's panto at the New Theatre, which meant I had chance to chat with a full-blown, "Oh yeah I know him!" celebrity from the telly. Yes, comedian, presenter and former King of the Jungle , Mr. Joe Pasquale. I enjoyed the afternoon thoroughly and he, like all the other cast members, was lovely.
Rating: 4/5 Certainly the best excuse I've had for missing History. "No honestly sir, I was interviewing Joe Pasquale!"

I tried my hardest to avoid the Olympics. Not entirely sure why. Although I am so envious that you got to meet Joe. More so though, I'm envious that you got to meet Ceri Dupree! He's amazing!
