New Experiences #101 - #107
I have somehow fallen way behind with these posts, so the first weeks of January will see me reliving the last month of 2012. Here's some of November; it was busy...
W/C 12th November
New Experience #101: Meeting Royalty
And not just any royalty, but the don himself, Prince Philip. The occasion was the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award Ceremony in the fancy St James' Palace in London, and fresh from a bout of illness, his highness was in fine form. He called students "scroungers" - he can talk - and made a faux pas about disabled skiers. Classic Phil.
Rating: 3/5 I'm no monarchist but it was cool to meet such a national treasure of a jester. Boris is next on the list.

New Experience #102: Voting
I was part of the pathetically small number of people who turned up to vote for the very poorly publicised Police and Crime Commissioner role. I concluded that such a position should not be party political and voted for the two independents in my area. Neither was successful and my first experience of voting was a thorough letdown.
Rating: 2/5 My feelings when posting my slip in a slightly run-down and very empty poll station were not of pride towards one of the world's earliest modern democracies but of general anti-climax. But if you're over 18, vote or spoil next time please!

New Experience #103: Drum'n'Bass Club Night
Good drum'n'bass comes into its own in a club. Check out Aperture at Clwb Ifor Bach when you get a chance if you want to skank yourself silly.
Rating: 5/5 Top night.

New Experience #104: An Illegal Substance
Yes, well the less said about this the better. I, and TheSprout, cannot condone or encourage, such activity.
Rating: I'm not going to rate this.

W/C 19th November
New Experience #105: Being A Mystery Shopper
I was asked to have problems and ring, text and instant message the folks at Meic and rate their service. On the whole, it was very good and if you ever need advice, they're the guys to talk to.
Rating: 4/5 I got paid for the privilege and enjoyed dreaming up dilemmas to discuss.
----------------
New Experience #106: Hare Krishna Meditation
I'm not at all religious but am open to the idea of a God or some sort of spiritual side to this human experience. It was then with much relief that when I finally got round to a meditation session at Cafe Atma, I felt perfectly comfortable with the non-preachy attitude and focus on complete disconnection with the material existence. After the chanting, a discussion of passages from the Bhagavad-Gita ensued and then we all ate a vegan supper and talked about life.
Rating: 5/5 I came away refreshed, calm and desperate again to do good in the world away from our material obsessions. A very pleasing Wednesday.

New Experience #107: Making Welsh Cakes
Despite being Welsh all my life, prior to November 2012, the Welsh cake had not been something I'd ever ventured to produce. Surprisingly simple and even more delicious when fresh off the pan, this is a must make for any bakers o Gymru.
Rating: 4/5 Don't be put off if they look a little burnt, they actually taste good with a slightly crispy outer layer. Sugar, jam, tea and friends are most definitely required.
