New Experience # 27: Zumba!
With my love of herbal tea, Ryvita and Sunday night costume dramas, I have often been likened to a middle aged woman. Well, twice. And by the same person.
But still, the comparison has been troubling me and for some time I have felt determined to break down this (false) perception. With this is in mind, I headed down to my local leisure centre with best mate Gareth to really man it up with a good work out. I’d prove my doubter wrong: certain habits aside, I’m a seventeen year old fella with just as much youthful testosterone as, uh, the next seventeen year old fella. Eurrghhh.
Yeah right, we were there for Zumba! And what a way to brighten up a grey Tuseday! I feel this one warrants plenty of exclamation of marks!!
Once past the initial shock of being surrounded by women in lycra (I’m not complaining), the hour long session flew by as we were guided through song after song. Zumba mixes various styles of dance to workout different parts of the body and even for a dance novice like myself was easy enough to get into. I was impressed by the range of music played (from Clubland to Cuban) and was overjoyed everytime the man on the CD shouted ZUMMBBAAA! in a French accent.
Even if this is seen as a female orientated phenomenon (which it is) I recommend this to all. It’s a ridiculously fun way to keep fit and well worth making time to try.
Rating: 5/5 I doubt I would have ever done this if I wasn’t actively looking for new things to do, but it was actually brilliant!!
New Experience # 28: A Successful Skype Call
Time: Easter Sunday morning, circa 11.30am. Location: Prestwich, Greater Manchester. New Experience: A Skype call that actually worked.
Visiting family in Manchester for the Easter weekend, it was only right that we contacted an Aunty and Uncle in Sydney who have just had their first child together. With all of us gathered around the computer, the conversation ran without glitches for as long as half an hour. We got to see the latest addition to the clan with clear picture and sound and without any of that un-synched lip nonsense. Oh the marvels of technology.
Rating: 4/5 The last, and only other, time I used Skype I couldn’t get a picture at all. A great improvement and much more rewarding than a phone call.
