New Experience #20
New Experience #20: Quiche Making
At the start of the week, the looming milestone of my twentieth new experience of the year excited me no end, yet by Saturday morning I was facing a crisis. I had planned to go along to the Sherman’s Script Slam to watch a series of short plays written and performed by young people, but didn’t due to an unforeseen ticket mishap (there were none left when we got there). This letdown and the additional pressure to nail such an important week had really got to me, but in stepped my mum by suggesting I “tried to make some sort of pastry”. Which, I think you’ll agree, is what mums are for.
Inspired by New Experience #14 to do more cooking, I instantly warmed to her idea and had soon settled on a savoury pastry dish, or more specifically, Delia’s cheese and onion quiche. Following her instructions rather loosely, I managed to run through to pre-dough stage rather well, keeping hands cold and engaging only my fingertips in the bringing together of flour and marge. However I then added too much water to the mix, leaving an overly sticky substance that was difficult to roll out.
But I persisted and having added the filling and turned on the oven, half-an-hour later out popped a fully-fledged quiche ready for the eating. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to grease the tin, which proved problematic but my mum once again stepped in to help me get it out.
Rating: 4/5. Cutting 700g of onions was very upsetting and I made a complete mess of rolling out the pastry, but as first quiches go, it was rather tasty.
Suggestions, as always, are welcome below. And what are you waiting for, try something new this coming week!

Well if you're not going to dance the fandango, then I suggest tackling clichs...
Eat a horse, say boo to a goose, make hay while the sun shines, make a mountain out of a molehill, go to Rome and act like the Romans and so on.
