Yn Gymraeg // Welsh version

The Welsh Government are looking for young journalists, reporters and other media types from all across Wales to cover the the subject of internet safety. They want you to get out there, interview people, and produce articles, videos, recordings or other media showcasing your findings.

How you approach the task is really up to you, and it shouldn't take you more than half a day (unless you want to make something extra-specially awesome, which we most certainly won't stop you from doing!). The only guideline is that you need to find out these three things from the people you speak to:-

  1. What is good about the internet nowadays?
  2. What would make the internet better in the future? [With a particular focus on safety]
  3. How could we go about making your ideas [from question 2] happen?

You could ask your friends and write down their answers. You could grab a video camera and ask random people in the street. You could get a voice recorder app on your phone and record people yelling into their microphones over Xbox Live. Or you could do something entirely different; it's up to you. It's also up to you whether you keep the questions very open, or choose to focus on a particular topic (for example: online gaming, or social networking).

We will provide media drop-in centres across Wales for those who would like access to equipment, editing software, and journalism support and advice. Although shooting on your mobile or jotting notes on a pad of paper is equally fine so don't feel this is essential.

While you can start working on something right now if you have an idea, all submissions will be published between the 8th-14th February to coincide with Safer Internet Day on 11th February.

Want to submit something? For more details and to get involved: leave a comment below, email dan[at]cliconline.co.uk, or (to be kept fully up-to-date and have the chance to join in with group work) join the Facebook group.

If you know anyone aged 11-25 (and based in Wales) who would be interested in creating content please invite them!

Kerblam!

Okay, I know a few people have been wondering exactly what's what with this project so...

Tomorrow is Safer Internet Day, but we're pretty much dubbing the whole week Safer Internet Week. We want to provide support and opportunities to budding young reporters (whether writers, filmmakers, or anything else) to generate content on the topic of internet safety. We're publishing them all on the site under the username "Internet Safety Dayh" (don't worry, we'll still credit you) and then these articles/videos/etc will be used every time people are taught about online safety.

Specifically, we want to collect as many varied responses and interpretations to these 3 questions:

What is good about the internet nowadays?
What would make the internet better in the future? [With a particular focus on safety]
How could we go about making your ideas [from question 2] happen?

If you have an idea - and it can be as simple as writing about your own experiences or interviewing your friends - write it up and submit it to CLIConline.co.uk with the title 'Safer Internet Day' (can also have your own heading after that). If you have a bit of an idea but would like some advice or support, post in the Facebook group. We'll also be finding our own opportunities and posting them in the group as well, so check back regularly!
