Dreamboats
A sixties extravaganza of epic proportions, this cheery musical is full of sing-a-long hits and perfect for some good old fashioned fun.
Based on the popular CD with the same name, Bill Kenwright's production of Dreamboats And Petticoats may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is well performed and well staged.
Scott Bruton, the ex-Bluecoat who disappointed in last years X-Factor, is at home here and performs well with a talented cast.
Set in a youth club in London, the show's storyline isn't anything to write home about, but it's the seemingly endless list of dance-in-the-aisle tunes that'll send you home smiling.
Daisy Wood-Davis impresses as Laura, a talented young songwriter whose full potential is revealed when she gets together with Bobby (Bruton), whose teenage love is sweet and harmless.
Ben Freeman (Emmerdale) stars as Norman, a ladies man of sorts who attempts to write songs for his 'band' and fails miserably. That doesn't pull his head out of the clouds though, and his constant arrogance adds some humour to this already jolly musical.
Dreamboats And Petticoats is a carefree show that produces a warm glow from a bygone era.
Step back to the sixties until Saturday at the New Theatre.
