Cardiff Airport Is At Risk
Cardiff Airport is located just outside of Cardiff in a place called Rhoose. For years, the people of Cardiff have been using this airport for going on holiday within the UK and to other countries, but now it seems that the airport is at a big risk of closing down.
The Welsh Government has bought it out to try and keep an airport in Wales, but there are hardly any flights coming and going. This is due to the lack of need for an airport here because people seem happy to travel all the way to Bristol Airport for flights to Europe (larger airports, such as Heathrow, fly to other continents).
I think that we should keep an airport in Wales because it inconveniences a lot of people to have to travel to further airports and it is actually going to cost people a lot of money in petrol if they have to travel further.
The airport isn't just at risk because people are not using it but because many airlines do not wish to fly from there anymore, which is the main reason really that the airport could be closed in the near future.
Although Thomson is the main airline right now that still flies from Cardiff, a new airline called CityJet, which flies to Paris, Jersey and Edinburgh, has started flying short routes to a few places.
I went to Cardiff Airport about five months ago to drop someone off for a flight to Dublin (with Stobart Air - recently changed from AerLingus) and the airport was just completely empty; there were about two check-in desks open for two flights.
In 2010, I went on holiday to Menorca from Cardiff Airport with Thomson and, at the time, it was very busy and there were no problems at all, but, it is in recent years that this economic deterioration has become apparent.
I really think that this airport should be kept open so that we can have at least one airport in Cardiff.

I just don't know where I can fly to from Cardiff (so many companies and destinations drop out, return, new ones are added) whereas Bristol is fairly cheap and I feel fairly comfortable knowing I'll be able to get the flight from there.
PS. The Sprout clearly having an effect on what appears in the top 5 on Walesonline yesterday! http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/controversy-welsh-government-owned-cardiff-airport-9053468

Ha thanks for the link David!
Cardiff Airport is certainly proving a popular topic on our social media, with the Airport itself responding there's "no risk we're closing down" and offering an interview, while Capital Translations say "People are not 'happy' to travel to Bristol. It's just they often have no choice." On our Facebook page, Sam says "Bristol airport is so close though, it's cheaper too fly from too if I'm honest."
