Auto-Tune Is Destroying The Music Industry

Auto-tuning is a good way of making a song sound better, but, today, there are hundreds of songs that are being wrecked by this. In the past century, there were no facilities to edit songs to this extent and, to be quite frank, I think that singers in those times were much better than the ones we have today.

When you hear a singer/band/group live, they are always just slightly out of tune. This is because when we listen to them on the internet (e.g. iTunes, YouTube), the song has been professionally edited to make them sound nicer.

Auto-tuning is usually done in a recording studio and it automatically tunes the voices to the pitch they are meant to be, but when a song is over-edited, the song can sound static and, sometimes, you cannot even hear the lyrics.

There are some voices that sound very bad with auto-tune and these singers don't need to be using it because their voices already sound good.

Some bands, for example, One Direction - who always sing flat when they are singing live (I saw them on TV on Children In Need and they were awful) - are just naturally bad singers and they use a lot of auto-tune to make themselves sound good.

To be honest, as this is the case, anyone could really be earning millions by just singing and using auto-tune!

The auto-tune debate has raged before on theSprout, as you can see here! What is your view? Let us know by commenting below or by submitting an article, here, like sean123 did!

well these singers wouldn't be famous if they couldn't sing live. yes, auto tune is used a lot to improve songs for the radio, albums etc but they wouldn't change it that much if their voice wasn't recognisable without it. PLUS- all celebrities have their off days (referring to where you said one direction sounded awful) I have heard one direction live a few times on summertime ball, the brits and so on and im not saying they sound like the auto tuned version of that song but they certainly sound good enough to be owning the money ,=they make, otherwise they wouldn't make all that money!

lauthomasx - maybe there is a bit of biased there seeing as you are implying that you like One Direction.................they should not be earning that kind of money because they are crap, they sound awful and all the concerts (I have seen them on the TV by chance sometimes) they preform in they sound absolutely atrocious.
