Laura Mvula is one of the most exciting new musical talents to come out of the UK. The classically trained singer-songwriter's music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others. Released in 2013, her debut album, Sing to the Moon, made its mark on many critics' year-end lists, including The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, LA Times, People Magazine, Vulture, the New York Daily News, Buzzfeed, and several more. The album reached the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart, received Mercury, Ivor Novello and Brit Awards nominations and led to Laura winning the awards for best female act and best R&B or soul artist at the 2013 MOBO Awards. Hot on the heels of her new collaboration with Nile Rodgers, Overcome, and her soon-to-be released second album, Laura brings her unique sound to Festival of Voice in a night that'll be sure to live long in the memory. "Beautiful in voice and soul, lift your eyes skyward and watch this girl soar."
