Interview: Vanessa From The Saturdays
An interview by you.
So, The Saturdays are back on Tour! Having now sold over five million records, with four Top Ten albums, The Saturdays continue to be a whirlwind force in the world of pop, which shows no sign of slowing.
Luckily, I managed to catch Vanessa to discuss The Saturdays' upcoming Greatest Hits Tour and album and grilled her on what she is looking forward to and what we should expect.
Featuring over thirteen Top Ten singles, the Greatest Hits is a celebration of a successful and enduring pop career, which the band have enjoyed since they first debuted in 2008 with If This Is Love. The album will include three brand new tracks alongside fan favourites, such as Higher, All Fired Up, Ego, Up and the chart topping What About Us.
From 7th September, The Saturdays will take their new album on the road, performing to their fans in cities across the UK, kicking off in Glasgow and then visiting Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham among others. But the most important date for your diary will be the 18th September, when The Saturdays come to Cardiff and play at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena!
However, one of the major concerns for Saturdays fans – as revealed in the torrent of Twitter questions regarding the subject via @FeedTheSprout – is that the release of a Greatest Hits album will mean that this tour will be their final tour. Yet Vanessa revealed to me that it is more a point where they just want to celebrate all their favourite hits so far.
Bucking the trend by releasing the collection whilst at the height of their career, fans can look forward to finally getting all the hits on one album. This is far from a farewell and more of a celebration, with the band planning to return to the studio later on in the year to start recording their fifth studio album.
QUICK-FIRE QUESTIONS:
Q: What is your favourite single and favourite video?
A: “What About Us by far! We got a Number One out of it and that has been our dream for so long. Erm, favourite video is definitely Higher – it was the first time we were out in the US and we all loved it. We felt like Hollywood superstars.”
Q: Okay then…..who do you think is better looking: Flo Rida or Sean Paul?
A: “Oh noooo! I can’t pick! They are both very attractive men. They have different qualities.”
Q: If you had to take 3 things on a desert island, what would they be?
A: “Well, water obviously or else I wouldn’t survive (a bit obvious); music - I can’t live my life without music; and my family. Yep, those seem like a good set.”
Q: Okay, advice for a girl on a first date?
A: “Behave. I mean in terms of be yourself and don’t do anything you wouldn’t want to do. Ask loads of questions and try and be fun and interesting. I have been on a few really bad first dates in my time so I can give plenty advice on what I wouldn’t do as well.”
Q: Which Saturday is the biggest flirt?
A: “Frankie definitely…..however, she isn’t as much now she has settled down!”
Q: Which Saturday gets the most frightened?
A: “Erm, definitely me actually. We did a show where we followed ghosts around this big country estate. I was terrified and kept screaming. Rochelle was soon to follow after me. Una, on the other hand, was mental and started to chat to all the ghosts and make friends with them!”
Q: If you were to do a duet with me, what would it be?
A: (Laughs) “Wow. Well it has to be a boy-girl one. Hmmmm, I don’t know. Maybe Rhianna ft Mickey Ekko – Stay, or, James Morrison ft Nelly Furtado – Broken Strings.”
