Jealous Lovers Club & Juxtaposed Club are delighted to once again bring you a fantastic Bank Holiday minifest with a stunning mix of quality math-rock, scuzz, surf, post-rock and indie, with 2 stages of superb acts inside and out!

Headlining the outdoor stage will be the energetic, frenzied yet melodic Indie-Pop of Johnny Foreigner, whose last LP ‘You Can Do Better’ caught rave reviews for it’s “defiantly timeless signature style...that demands intense devotion” (Line of Best Fit, 8/10) and My Grey Horse play last inside, who bring “swirling guitars, sweeping melodies” and “artistic depth” which has seen debut record ‘I Still Don’t Understand’ hailed as “astonishing” (Sunday Times) and “essential” (Mojo, 4/5).

Joining them is a stunning lineup that mixes the experimental with pop sensibilities, including the gorgeous shoe-gazey fuzz-rock of Kutosis, Luke Barnham of the scuzzy, spiky Stagecoach and Wasters who joined Frankie & the Heartstrings & Houdini Dax at Gwdihw’s opening Independent Venue Week show with their “rip-snorting jangle-pop” (Wales Online).

We're looking forward to welcoming the fast paced, whisky soaked Americana-Folk of the burgeoning talent that is Jack Ellis Music. Bringing funk-laced rhythm and haunting yet emotive vocals, Jack has been find-tuning his craft to go with his natural skill and ear for storytelling melodies.

Making widescaping acoustic timbres, his work finds it's places in Folk too, for the ability it has to lay bare honest, authentic tales, with intimate skill.

Alongside him, we will see The Dukes of Hafod & Kyle Taylor

Pick n’ Mix Allsorts Open Mic | Thu 7th | £tbc

The heart of South Wales is without a doubt its’ rich and vibrant cultural arts scene. It is our objective to showcase the very best of this underrated talent monthly, in a multidisciplinary creative arts event at Gwdihw. We want to provide a platform to South Wales’ most inspirational artists; in order for them to transition from playing for free, to making a decent wage.

Off the back of their 6th consecutive Cardiff Pride performance and 4 successful arts fundraiser events (collectively raising over £3000 for charity) – Cwtch have established themselves as a regular fixture of the culturally diverse arts scene in South Wales. Cwtch front-woman Clary Saddler and fellow band mate Sally Anne Isles are embarking on a monthly Open Mic/Jameoke/Showcase extravaganza in an attempt to shine a light on up and coming artists, under the radar acts and unsung heroes.

Pick ‘n’ Mix Allsorts will focus on the creative arts, from the undeniable musical talents of Cakehole Presley, and the awe-inspiring poetry of Patrick Jones– to the gritty bass lines and controversial lyrics of Corporate Christ, and the comedy genius of stand-up comedian Charlie Webster. We will also feature the best up and coming 2 minute short movies in between sets – so it’s a real mixed bag.

We will use a monthly podcast to shine a further light on the highlights of the night; and to preview exciting featured acts to follow.

Hontza Events & Starving Artists present: Ugly Duckling with DJ Jaffa & Turna Phrase | Wed 13th | 7.30pm | £8/more otd

Starving Artists & Hontza Events have teamed up to bring you the one and only......Ugly Duckling! They’re still here. After five albums and more than a decade of touring Ugly Duckling continues to make music with independence and integrity. While most people in the entertainment business attempt to constantly reinvent themselves, UD has remained happily naïve when it comes to the latest industry attitudes & trends and instead focus on their Old School skills in rhyme & beat making. Young Einstein, Dizzy Dustin and Andy Cooper formed Ugly Duckling way back in 1993 in their hometown of Long Beach, California.

Growing up in the 1980s, they were raised on a classic hip hop diet but were especially influenced by the mostly New York-based and production-focused groups of the late 80’s and early 90’s (such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Beatnuts, Diamond D, Gangstarr, etc). Despite the odds and, as usual, against the prevailing currents, UD began honing a sound based on funky drum breaks, soul-drenched musical loops, and massive horn sections. When it came to the group’s vocal style, Andy and Dizzy created a unique, back-and-forth flow to showcase rhythmic and poetic skill with a special humor that inspires head nodding smiles. With that they began crawling their way toward a career in hip hop, but it would not be an overnight process."

Juxtaposed & Xpress Radio present: Tibet with Hana & Evan Gardner | Thu 14th | 8pm | £4/3adv

Juxtaposed & Xpress Radio are delighted to bring you the excitable Art-Pop/Indie of the superb T I B E T to Gwdihw on May 14th.

Charming Cardiff crowds with packed out shows at The Moon Club and the recent Swn Festival, their youthful impudence and steadily building stream of hype could belie that they are a band with years of songwriting stripes going into their condensed retro-pop, with recent single 'She Don't Know' gaining plaudits from Clash Magazine amongst others.

Bounding, bouncing rhythm and shoutable choruses have made them XFM & BBC Radio 1 favourites and quickly established their gigs as visceral, adolescent thrillers, and matched to their "potent songwriting" and "compact and utterly charming...Indie stomping fun" makes them a vital band about to go big.

Support comes from Hana & Evan Gardner.

Gwdihw Presents: Inc.A with Support | Fri 15th | 9PM - 2.30AM | £4/3

A quintessential 'Hw band, they've played numerous times and are always a maximalist sensory joy, mixing costumes, bounding bass and brass and subtle genre blending to bring a full-on night to all.

And as if that were not enough, we also have the superb Bass 12 joining us to support, and Ben Potter spinning tunes to keep the vibes going.
